How to preserve your fantasy football league history
A useful archive lets the next commissioner answer the same questions you can answer today.
Start with the original results
League history is more than a list of champions. It can include season standings, final matchup scores, playoff brackets, draft results, and franchise identity across years. These details let you distinguish a regular-season leader from a playoff winner, or a renamed team from a new owner.
Begin with the provider where each season was actually played. Use the guides above to locate the original leagues and check which reports remain accessible. A current account or a recently recreated league may not contain the full earlier history.
Inventory the gaps before the import
Make one row per season in an archive worksheet. Record the platform, original league link, champion, and reports you checked. Separate an inaccessible season from a season whose standings exist but whose draft or lineups are incomplete.
Each platform guide includes a downloadable worksheet. The worksheet helps you plan and verify the archive; it is not a universal import format. Keep any supporting screenshots and recovery exports alongside it with clear year labels.

Join platform eras without doubling seasons
A group that moved from Yahoo to Sleeper still has one league story. Map the old and new team names to continuing franchises, and note changes in ownership separately. If the destination platform already imported older seasons, check for overlap before adding a second copy of those years.
Do not force every league with a similar name into the same archive. Test leagues, abandoned drafts, and side competitions can belong to the same managers without being part of the same championship history.
Keep records useful and explainable
Attach the season and week to scoring records. State whether all-time wins include playoffs and consolation games. When scoring rules changed, preserve the original results and explain the era rather than silently recalculating the past.
Use your archive as the source for the league’s next newsletter: a rematch of an old final, a verified scoring milestone, or a franchise anniversary. The strongest stories come from details your own league recognizes.
